RIVERHEAD, NY – Just in time for Veterans Day and to assist Veterans on the East End, Peconic Bay Medical Center announced today that it has been approved as a new member of the Choice Program under the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

The Choice Program provides Veterans an option to receive healthcare from non-VA facilities. Eligible Veterans who are enrolled in VA health care as well as the Choice Program are able to receive care closer to home. There are eligibility requirements that allow Veterans to utilize the Choice Program. The Veteran has been (or will be) waiting more than 30 days for medical care at a VA medical facility; or the veteran lives more than 40 miles away from a VA medical care facility, or is faced with substantial travel burdens. Using this program does not impact the Veteran’s existing VA health care, or any other VA benefit. To determine if a Veteran is enrolled in the Veterans Choice Program, they are asked to call   1-866-606-8198 or visit http://www.va.gov/healthbenefits/apps/choice/ to determine eligibility.

Peconic Bay Medical Center and Congressman Lee Zeldin are committed to the Veterans on the East End of Long Island. Congressman Lee Zeldin stated, “One of my top priorities in Congress is ensuring our veterans have access to the highest quality of healthcare. Since the beginning of the year, I have been working closely with Peconic Bay Medical Center and the Department of Veterans Affairs to increase access to care for Veterans who live on Long Island's East End. Peconic Bay Medical Center, as an organization under the VA Choice Program, is an important new healthcare option for veterans, while still allowing them to continue receiving other services and ongoing treatment at the VA Hospital in Northport.”

Peconic Bay Medical Center (the hospital) along with its affiliated physician offices and Urgent Care Facility located in Manorville are all approved Choice Program facilities. “Creating medical access and assisting with travel time for the Veterans on the East End is a benefit to our community. We are excited and proud to be able to offer convenient healthcare access to our deserving Veterans,” said Andrew Mitchell, President & CEO of Peconic Bay Medical Center and Peconic Bay Medical Center.
